I'm not amazing by any means but I'd be willing to do it for fairly cheap. And if you don't like it, perhaps it could just be a page or something. Or a little ink drawing asset to use between chapters. I may be only 18 but I work hard and am looking for practice to improve my art skills while also supporting writers like you.
Hey Pete, this sounds like a great premise, especially as someone who's into retro games myself. Take a look at my page here in case you're interested and think I might be up your alley: https://jlgnoga.substack.com/p/graphic-design
I'm affordable and adaptable. It's only final once you're satisfied
I think I’d be a great fit for your new book! I’m a book designer and illustrator, and I’ve been working exclusively in publishing for the past 12 years. I’m also a big fan of video games—I grew up with them! So when you say “vintage,” to me, that’s just my childhood. :) My cover designs are all about color and of course they are handmade. You can see more of my work here:
I’ve already designed covers for four different authors on Substack. I didn’t even know about the platform at the time—that’s actually how I found it and ended up joining the community!
If you want to know more about my process and rates, feel free to send me a message.
Trying to get my guy on it. He’s not a professional cover designer but he kills mixed media stuff. Also, I gotta get you some feedback on the first section! The video game stuff is not my thing (shouldn’t have to be), but I like it and love the premise!
Have you seen this guy? I had a bit of interaction with him about prices and he seems grounded and talented.

Thank you for your kind words
Happy to lend a hand in any small way. It’s rough times for illustrators that’s for sure.
I'm a terrible artist and here to follow the designers who comment for when I get this book done.

I’ll keep you in mind—I’m going to do my due diligence and look around and wait a few weeks to see who responds, too, though.
take your time. good luck with the book nevertheless!
