This is very fine writing Peter. I like to refer to texture in relation to prose or verse. This is such a "mossy"-vibed poem. Exactly on the mark indeed. I'm reminded of "In the Heart of the Heart of the Country" by Gass reading this at times. Great, great work!
Thank you, Brock! I appreciate the read and the comparison! I was aspiring to 'fecund'--so if I even got to 'mossy,' then I feel like I did pretty well... More later, -PShull
Enjoying reading! Also, I Agee that an arboretum, as wonderful as it is, has a different character than most forests I’ve ever visited. And some of those forests, fictional and real, have changed my life. Bilbo popping his head up above the canopy and seeing butterflies may very well have inspired me to explore some actual forests.
Exactly on the mark.
I like the analogy you draw: excerpt is to arboretum as book is to forest.
